Kid has a project to build a diorama for WWII. She chose Omaha Beach (had to be a beach scene).
What are some inexpensive options for minis? I was thinking 15mm is probably the best scale for this. We are going to pick up a 2x2 board and some foam. I'm considering trying my hand at some water effects, which I can handle.
But because I don't do the historical games, I'm a little lost on a good, cheap option for troops, vehicles, and artillery. Suggestions?

How much of the scene does she have to show? From the water to the tops of the pillboxes? Can she do a small vignette, say a group of soldiers charging out of the surf? Bolt Action gives you 25 dudes, apporox 28mm for $36 www.warlordgames.com/us-store/bolt-action/us-army/american-infantry-plastic-boxed-set.htmlAlso, I have a big box of water effects I've never used that you're welcome to, as well as mounds of Styro you can cut to make dunes etc. as well as some lightweight epoxy putty marketed for terrain use. I've also got a 60th anniversary mag with lots of photos of the beaches etc taken during the invasion that she's welcome to utilize.

Heh, you missed the Facebook discussion on this. He will go 1/72 or 1/35 scale for cheapness

You are deluding yourself. You need to get on, even if you dont use your real name. Tom Surza is a good choice.

What about green army men? They're pretty cheap at the Toy Soldier on 11mile.

Kiley laid out several scale options in detail on FB. We're leaning 1/72. I have a 2x2 board and we grabbed some foam (I have alot extra now....). We're going from a bit of water to hills/cliffs in scope. 1/72 (15-20mm) is kinda necessary to fit the scale.
I WILL take you up on the water effects though. I need that.
We're contemplating 2 gun emplacements and a machinegun nest for the Germans, and maybe 3 transports + dudes for the Americans. Razor wire and hedgehogs to litter the beach. 2 feet of seawall/brickwall (1" tall 1/2" thick)
So anyone with above minis in 15-20mm or so, lemme know. I have a few potential leads, other than retail right now.
