So this weekend and next, our guard players get codexes. Personally, it doesnt bother me one bit if you choose to stay with your old dex for a while or jump straight to the new one. I know our club members who play guard are either a) relatively new to the hobby and only recently bought the codex or b) not playing the game except once or twice a month on club meets or c) as a side game. Or a combination of the above. Dont feel pressured to drop another $50 immediately on a new codex if YOU dont want to. I (and I imagine the rest of the 40k players) will happily play against the old dex if it means the difference in getting a game.

I'll be sticking with my old codex this month for sure. Next month I'll likely switch over.

Apparently you are losing Sly Marbo. Yay!

I am buying it, but might not be ready to play it yet.

Well, losing Marbo until I glue his page into my new book will be rough, but I think I'll be okay until then.

It wont be substantially different for either of you. Both your armies are middle of the road, and will survive edition changes well. It is the really extreme builds on the ends of the spectrum (often the powergamers) who get whacked pretty hard with a new book.

I noticed the griffon is missing from the list of units In the guard book. (It disappeared from the 4th edition book too) I guess you could play it as the new wyvern, or continue to use it as a griffon using the rules in the old book.
If anyone complains, a griffon is still a valid choice from the forgeworld books, and it wasnt overpowered. (especially compared to the new wyvern)
