So, I had these students that found out I play Warhammer and they have been begging me to play. I told them after they graduated I would. I played a smallish game with them a couple weeks ago to get the feel for their group and how they play and then we played Apocalypse on Monday.
8k Eldar vs Tau/IG/Ork alliance.
I will spare you the details of the army list. But I took thus shot of mine before
They insisted I use the Phantom Titan, and that took 2500 of my 8k. 10 tanks, 2 fliers, 4 waithlords. You get the idea.
The table looked like this:
11x4. Plenty of room. They had to split their army on either short end, I deployed in the middle before they arrived. We started rolling dice at 2:00 and ended at about 10:30 with a. Break at 5:00 and another at 7:30.
Because I was playing the eldar by myself, my turns took quite a while. Because they were newer players, and dont have the fast dice style that we do where other people look at your dice rolls, we played 3 turns.
Highlights:
The phantom was unsurprisingly devastating. It killed 2 baneblades, a stompa, leman russ, basalisk, 2 sentinals, a battlewagon, and a trukk.
I made a very funny mistake when I managed to get behind one of the ork bommas with my hemlock fighter before realizing I had no weapons with which to engage. (All the weapons are blast!)
The avatar cut a bloody swath through some killa kans, and a basalisk, before being cut down by the combined fire from a hammerhead, riptide, firewarriors and an IG heavy weapons squad.
The stompa did a couple wounds to the Phantom before I dropped a squad of fire dragons off in front of it. The ensuing explosion nuked he fire dragons and most of the squad of boyz riding inside. They were able to spend a vp at the end of the break to bring it back into play.
At the end it was avery close game. 36-32 in favor of the eldar. Had it been pure objective points, they would have won, but the secondary objective was kill points, and I destroyed plenty of units. Even then, a critical fight around one of the objectives on the last turn made the difference in my favor.
Fun game and something we will probably do again in July or August.
