2 weeks later, and another update. Ushabti They are the metal models. I have had them around for ages, just never really got around to them. I found it difficult to replicate the jem red I got on the warsphinx (all my constructs are going to be made from the jem like material) so I approximated it, and through a gloss varnish on it to make it shine. Pictures are taken at twilight, (terrible light to photograph minis in) but with little ones at home, I took pics when I could. Ypu should always photograph your minis when done, I see a little cleanup work that needs to be done, easily missed when trying to grind the unit to completion. (edges of bases, and nails on the ushabti most notably) The obelisk in the middle is magnetized on, and removable. It is the standard bearer in the unit. I didnt want to hack apart the ushabti to make a standard, so I found this a reasonable alternative. There they are with no obelisk. The obelisk is made from a piece of balsa 3/4" x 3/4 " and then slashed at to make a few crack marks and then cut at an angle to make a pyramid top. Unlike the other models, I am relatively happy with how the basing turned out on these. 1/8" cork sold at michaels, torn into convenient slabs, painted bleach bone and then washed with Delvan Mud, and re-highlighted. Very similar to the Warsphinx. This makes 1600 points painted, and a month to go before I go back to school. Now, of course, my army is illegal, as I have only 17% core now, with only the 2 units of 21 skeletons. Next up will be chariots, to beef up the core, and take the army to 2,000 points. Will probably need a prince/king to lead the unit, and another liche priest to cast spells, taking the army to 2400 or so. Definately doable before the end of August. Thanks for the comments, updates soon!

So, tried to post this yesterday, as the last day before I went back to work, but the universe and the children intervened. Finally finished my chariots. I have to say, I hated every minute of it, and I think thats why they took 5 weeks. I would start, then put it down and go do something else. (terrain, whatever) They ended up significantly "whiter" than the rest of my skeletons, and a wash just doesn't fix them. In the end I had to just get them done and off my painting table so I could do something else. Far from my best work, and the light was VERY intense, but they are done, which is something. The bows are strung in the quivers, and the reins are copper phone wire, stripped of the insulation and twisted to give the braided rope appearance. Full army shot, and back to a legal army again with the addition of the new core unit. Despite my reservations about how the chariots came out, I DO like how well they fit the color scheme of the army, and the force looks really cohesive, which is what I was going for. Won't win any painting awards, but it all looks like it belongs together. (except for the basing on the archers and catapult, but thats an easy fix) There are about 1850 points on the table, and I would really like to make it a legal 2k before I run out of steam (and time) Probably a liche priest up next to round out the force. With my regular gaming group pretty much abandoning WFB and moving back to 40K, school starting back up, and a box of 200 points of Kings of War Elves due to land in the mail any time now, (from thier kickstarter) It is going to be hard to maintain the push for the TK. Here is to pushing on to at least 2K! And thanks for looking.

Looking at this now, I realize I forgot to take pics of the final Liche that makes the army 2k... I will have to remedy that. Some quick picks of the things I wanted to get off my desk before the end of the year, and did so successfully. Some quick and dirty 40K terrain. I love the stuff GW is coming out with. And Sammael, chapter master of the Ravenwing on his Jetbike Sammael was pretty fun to paint. The model is finecast, and other than one bubble that was easy to fill with liquid greenstuff, I got a really nice cast of it. When I figure out the basing scheme for the Dark Angels, I will have to go back and do the base. Sammael is the first model of the new year, finished at 11:58 on Jan 1!

2 Minutes to Midnight!!!!!!!!
I know it's said all the time, but the pics really don't do this model justice.

The year of random stuff has begun. In the 2 weeks since painting Sammael, I painted u my Satyxis. I use them in nearly every game it seems, so why not paint them up? Ignore the lack of basing... I dont know what I want to do yet, and I want it to be consistent among the army. Once I figure it out, I will likely base the whole army at once. Some closeups. Closeup of a single model to show the detail on the shoulder. Showing each of the different sculpts of the unit. I have 8 more, I should pick up another blister of 2, so I can do 2 complete units and just finish them while I have the muscle memory to do so. They were pretty fun to paint, and I am happy with the result. Next up? Either more Cryx, or maybe one of my Orc and Goblin characters I so desperately need for the army. Till next time!

A very rough month since that last update. Sprained my ankle, which put me out of commission for 2 weeks, then went down hard with the flu last week, haven't really been able to put much paint to models. That said, I did follow through, and finally painted up some characters for my orcs and goblins army, making it an actual legal painted force. Savage orc shaman, orc shaman, Orc warboss, and a Goblin hero. All told, maybe 6 hours on the lot. The older Savage Orc Shaman looks pretty good in the unit with the older savage orcs, and the regular shaman fits well into either the savages or a regular orc unit. The little bit of cork gives them some needed hight and marks them as different. The warboss is a pretty simple model, as cool as the pose is. I am flirting with going back and doing some warpaint or something, he just strikes me as very "samey" Love the little guy in front though. I thnk he is a games day model? The goblin is a bit of a cheat. He was painted when I got him, I just changed the skin tone a bit to match my style, and rebased him. Not a ton of work, but he needed some help to fit in. More characters to come, I have at least 4 more sitting on my desk as I type this. I might paint up a a Cryx unit just to get a break, but this is definately the year of characters for this army.

A little terrain distraction. Wanted to try a little weathering on the rhino. It turned out "ok." Definately something that is going to take practice, and a few tools I don't have yet.

The year of Orc characters continues... March is a tough month for me hobbywise. Both kids, and wifey's birthday all within 5 days of each other means very little time at the hobby table. Grimlok and Gazbag If you don't recognize them, they were the promotional models for the Warhammer Online game. Ogre found one and gave it to me for Christmas. (awesome!) The thing could be used for a doorstop, it is REALLY heavy. He is so wide, mounting him on a cavalry base was a must, and it still fills the base. Other characters coming soon include some kind of a BSB. I don't have one! I played 3k last weekend and was struggling to come up with something to use as one. Almost 5K painted at this point, and STILL no BSB... Something needs to be done!
